1A message from the Lord to Joel the son of Pethuel.
2 Listen carefully elders and open your ears all who live on the earth. In all of history nothing like this has ever happened before.
3 This crucial hour will be remembered and talked about for all of eternity and all generations to come.
4 You have been attacked on every front eating your spiritual life away through attacks and compromises in society, Christianity and chaos every facet of life. What little of your hope and faith is left is destroyed by other spiritual plagues in the land.
5 Wake up! Wake up you who are spiritually asleep and cry out to God. Cry out to God for the outpouring of His Spirit because it is missing from our world today.
6 For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion.
7 He hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig tree: he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white.
8 Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.
9 The meat offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the Lord; the priests, the Lord’s ministers, mourn.
10 The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted: the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.
11 Be ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.
12 The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men.
13 Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests: howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat offering and the drink offering is withholden from the house of your God.
14 Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the Lord your God, and cry unto the Lord,
15 Alas for the day! for the day of the Lord is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.
16 Is not the meat cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God?
17 The seed is rotten under their clods, the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered.
18 How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.
19 O Lord, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.
20 The beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
Speak words to awaken God’s people from slumber. Sound the battle cry and prepare the troops for war. Let everyone on earth tremble with holy fear because the day of the Lord is upon us.
2 To many this day is a terror and is darkness like ferocious storm clouds encompassing the whole earth. Then a great army of bright light will appear as dawn spreading across the globe. Nothing like this has ever happened or will ever happen again.
3 Unapproachable light brighter than any fire encompasses the army and leads their path. In front of them land is like the garden of Eden and behind them is a desolate wasteland. Everything has happen turned to ashes and nothing can escape.
4 They are fiercer and faster than any military weapons this world has ever seen.
5 The sound of the army is more terrifying than thunder and lightning as it sweeps across the land. As a raging forest fire, the army sweeps across the earth with haste and unrestrained with great might.
6 As a result all people are consumed in agony and unspeakable terror.
7 The army force advances as a super elite task force. They attack as one unified being completely surrendered and following the battle plan as the most elite task force.
8 They do not fight for position but every soldier walks in unison following his specific orders. They are invincible and cannot be killed by the sword.
9 They instantly lay siege to entire cities and completely take over. With stealth and vigilance they assail every house in the city as a thief in the night and nothing can stop them from taking over.
10 The entire earth quakes before them and the heavens tremble. The sun and moon are dark, and the stars cease to shine.
11 The Lord is leading this great army and He leads them into battle with a great shout. This army is very mighty and executes the Lord’s word and will in the earth. The day of the Lord beyond what any human being can endure, so who can possibly survive?
Turn To the Lord with All Your Heart
12 This is why the Lord desperately pleads with humanity to “turn to me with all of your heart. Cast away all distractions and spend every waking moment crying out to God with all of your heart.”
13 Do not just cry out to God with a flash of emotion or external actions but allow God to do a deep work in your heart. Turn to the Lord with all of your heart for He is merciful and compassionate, slow to anger and overflowing with infinite, unending love. As His most precious child your Father desperately longs for you to repent to avoid eternal wrath.
14 If you change your ways and return to the Lord by offering a true sacrifice of a completely surrendered heart, God will turn your curses into blessings.
15 Awaken God’s children by blowing trumpet in Zion. Get serious about seeking God by setting apart your life from other affections to intercede and cry out for the presence of God.
16 The people will be gathered by accepting the call to completely set their lives apart for Christ. All people – elders, children and even infants – will be gathered to this call. As this takes place the bride of Christ will be prepared by the Spirit to meet her heavenly bridegroom.
17 To instigate this holy marriage let the priests of God, who minister and live in the presence of the Lord, cry out between the entry room to the Temple and the altar. Let them begin to intercede “Father awaken and free your people from captivity! Don’t allow your most precious children to be ridiculed or scorned by the unbelieving world! Come with your Holy presence so the world will clearly see God is present and acts powerfully in the lives of His people.
18 When you get serious and desperate for God’s presence and daily cry out in intersession, then the Lord pity His child and jealously guard them as a loving Father to care for His children.
19 Yes, your intercession will impel the Lord respond and answer you, “Behold, I will send you spiritual provision of corn, and wine, and oil to complete the earthly harvest and satisfy your hearts. Finally you will be the Holy ambassadors I have called you to be and will be exulted above the rest of the world.
20 Because of your intercession, I will conquer your enemy and will drive him into a land barren and desolate wasteland. His face will be cast into the east sea (Dead Sea), and his feet into the far sea (Mediterranean sea). His strench will rise in the land because he of the wickedness he has done great things.
21 Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice: for the Lord will do great things.
22 Do not be afraid, for the desolate field of your hearts will soon be like the garden of Eden. Your life will bear great fruit and your life will yield great strength.
23 Rejoice children of God’s kingdom and rejoice in the Lord your God. For He has provided the former rain moderately, and now He will pour down the latter rain of His Spirit in a much greater measure.
24 The rain of the Spirit will produce an innumerable harvest full of wheat and overflowing with new wine and oil.
25 The Lord promises I will restore and redeem every moment that was lost. The years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.
26 In this great day your spirit will be sustained and your deepest soul cravings completely satisfied. You will praise the name of the Lord your God with all of your heart. He has dealt wondrously with His child so they will never be ashamed.
27 Then you will clearly experience that I live in the midst of my children. You will clearly see that I am your almighty, infinite, heavenly Father and there is no one like me. Because I am your Father you will never be ashamed.
28 And now it is coming to pass, I am pouring out my spirit on all humanity. Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions.
29 I will pour out my spirit on both men and women alike 30 And reveal wonders in the heavens and in the earth including blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.
31 The sun become dark, and the moon will turn blood red before the great and terrible day of the Lord.
32 All who call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered. In God’s kingdom there will be great awakening and deliverance of a remnant who the Lord is calling as He has promised.
King James Version (KJV)
3 For, behold, in those days, and in that time, when I shall bring again the captivity of Judah and Jerusalem,
2 I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land.
3 And they have cast lots for my people; and have given a boy for an harlot, and sold a girl for wine, that they might drink.
4 Yea, and what have ye to do with me, O Tyre, and Zidon, and all the coasts of Palestine? will ye render me a recompence? and if ye recompense me, swiftly and speedily will I return your recompence upon your own head;
5 Because ye have taken my silver and my gold, and have carried into your temples my goodly pleasant things:
6 The children also of Judah and the children of Jerusalem have ye sold unto the Grecians, that ye might remove them far from their border.
7 Behold, I will raise them out of the place whither ye have sold them, and will return your recompence upon your own head:
8 And I will sell your sons and your daughters into the hand of the children of Judah, and they shall sell them to the Sabeans, to a people far off: for the Lordhath spoken it.
9 Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles; Prepare war, wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up:
10 Beat your plowshares into swords and your pruninghooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong.
11 Assemble yourselves, and come, all ye heathen, and gather yourselves together round about: thither cause thy mighty ones to come down, O Lord.
12 Let the heathen be wakened, and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat: for there will I sit to judge all the heathen round about.
13 Put ye in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe: come, get you down; for the press is full, the fats overflow; for their wickedness is great.
14 Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision.
15 The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining.
16 The Lord also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the Lord will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel.
17 So shall ye know that I am the Lord your God dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy, and there shall no strangers pass through her any more.
18 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the mountains shall drop down new wine, and the hills shall flow with milk, and all the rivers of Judah shall flow with waters, and a fountain shall come forth out of the house of the Lord, and shall water the valley of Shittim.
19 Egypt shall be a desolation, and Edom shall be a desolate wilderness, for the violence against the children of Judah, because they have shed innocent blood in their land.
20 But Judah shall dwell for ever, and Jerusalem from generation to generation.
21 For I will cleanse their blood that I have not cleansed: for the Lord dwelleth in Zion.
Judgment against Enemy Nations
3 [a]“At the time of those events,” says the Lord,
“when I restore the prosperity of Judah and Jerusalem,
2 I will gather the armies of the world
into the valley of Jehoshaphat.[b]
There I will judge them
for harming my people, my special possession,
for scattering my people among the nations,
and for dividing up my land.
3 They threw dice[c] to decide which of my people
would be their slaves.
They traded boys to obtain prostitutes
and sold girls for enough wine to get drunk.
4 “What do you have against me, Tyre and Sidon and you cities of Philistia? Are you trying to take revenge on me? If you are, then watch out! I will strike swiftly and pay you back for everything you have done. 5 You have taken my silver and gold and all my precious treasures, and have carried them off to your pagan temples. 6 You have sold the people of Judah and Jerusalem to the Greeks,[d] so they could take them far from their homeland.
7 “But I will bring them back from all the places to which you sold them, and I will pay you back for everything you have done. 8 I will sell your sons and daughters to the people of Judah, and they will sell them to the people of Arabia,[e] a nation far away. I, the Lord, have spoken!”
9 Say to the nations far and wide:
“Get ready for war!
Call out your best warriors.
Let all your fighting men advance for the attack.
10 Hammer your plowshares into swords
and your pruning hooks into spears.
Train even your weaklings to be warriors.
11 Come quickly, all you nations everywhere.
Gather together in the valley.”
And now, O Lord, call out your warriors!
12 “Let the nations be called to arms.
Let them march to the valley of Jehoshaphat.
There I, the Lord, will sit
to pronounce judgment on them all.
13 Swing the sickle,
for the harvest is ripe.[f]
Come, tread the grapes,
for the winepress is full.
The storage vats are overflowing
with the wickedness of these people.”
14 Thousands upon thousands are waiting in the valley of decision.
There the day of the Lord will soon arrive.
15 The sun and moon will grow dark,
and the stars will no longer shine.
16 The Lord’s voice will roar from Zion
and thunder from Jerusalem,
and the heavens and the earth will shake.
But the Lord will be a refuge for his people,
a strong fortress for the people of Israel.
Blessings for God’s People
17 “Then you will know that I, the Lord your God,
live in Zion, my holy mountain.
Jerusalem will be holy forever,
and foreign armies will never conquer her again.
18 In that day the mountains will drip with sweet wine,
and the hills will flow with milk.
Water will fill the streambeds of Judah,
and a fountain will burst forth from the Lord’s Temple,
watering the arid valley of acacias.[g]
19 But Egypt will become a wasteland
and Edom will become a wilderness,
because they attacked the people of Judah
and killed innocent people in their land.
20 “But Judah will be filled with people forever,
and Jerusalem will endure through all generations.
21 I will pardon my people’s crimes,
which I have not yet pardoned;
and I, the Lord, will make my home
in Jerusalem[h] with my people.”
